Daisy Ann Butcher and Her Twin Daughters

Individual Record

Daisy Ann Butcher married Silas Earl Wisley on October 15, 1899.  She gave birth to identical twin girls on October 17, 1900.  Just weeks later (November 3, 1900) she died of blood poisoning (sepsis, deadly infection).  The girls were raised by their grandfather Calvin Wisley who left each of the girls $500 at the age of 14 according to his will.  They started working for James Harrell and Emma (Wiseley) Harrell, their aunt.  They are marked as Lodger (Relation to Head of House) and Occupation, Servant on the 1920 Census; wage or salary for general house.   Stella told my mom (her oldest daughter) that the Harrells had alot of money and were able to hire help.  They helped with the laundry, house cleaning and the three children.

It seems they were given a start in life, not quit orphans but were on their own by age 14.
